Fawzia Al-Nafea A passion for fashion
Fall,
2002
|
At the tender age of 17, Al-Nafea began working in her father's boutique, which is where she took her first tentative steps toward a career in design. One of her responsabilities there was to choose the designs the boutique would stock. Realizing that designs for the Saudi market would need to be conservative, Al-Nafea constantly sat with designers, working on moifications that would suit Saudi tastes. "Spending time in the fashion houses, having that contact with so many designers was what really gave me a great love for fashion," she said. It is probably not surprising that when Al-Nafea fell in love and married, at age 27, it was to a player in the fashion industry - a supplier of haute couture textiles. Following fashion shows and studying the styles of various designers gave her still further insights into the world of fashion. "I was inspired by big names such as Valentino, Channel and Ferre," she said.
When Saudi fashion designer Fawzia Al-Nafea talks about her rising career, her passion and enthusiasm are impossible to hide. Success hasn't come without a struggle for Al-Nafea, but she has taken strength from the journey; now she needs just three words to describe herself - challenging, daring and loyal.

Spectacular
Prague, capital pf the Czech Republic, hosted the
Holiday World 2001 International Travel Exhibition on
February 8-11, where more than 500 exhibitors from
around the world boasted the benefits of their tourist
destinations to approximately 50,000 visitors.
At the exhibition, it was the stand hosted by 360
TravelScape that stood out among the crowd. This unique
display featured a typical Lebanese red-roofed home,
complete with ka'aadi (seating place) and all sorts of
traditional Lebanese items such as nargileh and water
pitcher. Visitors were astounded by the beauty of the
Lebanese landscape - many had not realized Lebanon
offered the benefits of both the mountains and the sea.
The 360 TravelScape staff were pleased to be able to
eliminate some of the misconceptions and stereotypes
that have persisted about Lebanon, and put the spotlight
on the country's tourism opportunities instead.
To make sure the interest generated by the stand was
translated into new visitors to Lebanon, a lottery was
drawn every hour, sponsored by 360 TravelScape, through
which more than 20 lucky winners won free accommodation
in Lebanese hotels. Mainly locals from the Czech
Republic, the lottery winners were all eager to get
their bags packed for a trip to Lebanon.
